Hello and Ran Allim!
Hello! My name is Alisha Barkman. My family and I have been involved in ministry with the Chuukese people since 1991. We moved to Chuuk as a family in 1997. My father, Jody Colson, planted a church there. We also have a Christian radio ministry that is accessible on this website. At the time we began our translation ministry, there was almost next to nothing printed in the Chuukese language. The translations of the Bible had fallen out of print. We were able to obtain copies and set about to retype them for new publication. As we were working on the text, there were a few errors that came to light in the previous translations, so we made a new translation. The New Testament that we have available now and the portions of the Old Testament that are available, are all translated from the King James Bible, Greek and Hebrew. The New Testament includes notes and outlines by Dr. J Vernon McGee, translated and printed by permission of Thru the Bible Radio. The Sunday school books are largely adapted from Dr. McGee‘s commentaries. The Christian novels were all translated to be read as audiobooks on our radio station and are now available to folks as well. This website was originally intended mostly for Chuukese people, that is why there’s not much English here! Please let me know if you have any questions, and I will do my best to answer them!
My Story
My parents moved our family to Hawaii as Baptist missionaries in 1991. There, we came into contact with people from Chuuk, Micronesia. In 1997, we moved to Weno, Chuuk. My father planted a church there, and later, we began a Chuukese Christian radio station. I now live in Wyoming with my husband and our children, where I continue to work as a translator for our mission as well as on our farm.
Please let me know if you have any questions! I will do my best to answer them.
